SERINGAPATAM REEF VISUAL

Conoco Phillips conducted an extensive sub-sea survey on the habitat of Seringapatam Reef, a very unique isolated ‘chimney’  shaped reef that has grown from the depths of 500m and breached the surface forming a natural lagoon providing habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. It is located on the edge of the continental Shelf in North West Australia.

From ROV video reference, seismic charts, imagery, and existing literature a high resolution and detailed A2 graphic was needed to summarise all of this information.

CHALLENGES AND SOLUTION

As the reef depth was so great (500m) and with the most visually appealing part being the top 30m, a layout had to be devised to encompass this without losing detail in the bottom 94% of the reef which is as equally important. Working with the geologists involved in the survey a logarithmic version of the profile was developed and key points of the profile were addressed and the visual was broken up into two clear sections. Below is the original scamp for the chosen concept taken forward.
